Pedro Guajardo (Bio)
Composer, video artist and performer, Pedro Guajardo (Madrid, 1960) studied at the conservatory of Madrid and in international courses in Granada, Compostela, Darmstadt, Siena, Paris (IRCAM), Hungary, etc. In 1987 he received a Fulbright to study in the U.S.A. and completed two Masters, one in Composition, at California Institute of the Arts and the other in Conducting at the University of Missouri Columbia. He received a mention at the P.A.S. (Percussion Arts Society) competition (U.S.A.) He was awarded 3rd prize in the International Prize in Composition for Computer Music 'Pierre Schaeffer' (Italy), 1998. 1st prize in Composition Competition for Glass Harmonica 'Thomas Bloch' 2000 (France). 1st prize at the 4th International 'Edward Grieg Memorial' Composition Competition for String Quartet (Norway), 2000, and the special mention at the 2001 International Electroacoustic Competition SGAE (Spain). He was selected in the Multimedia Palmares at the 30th Bourges Competition in 2003 (France) and at the International Film Festival in Granada (Spain) 2001. He has received many commissions and his compositions have been programmed in international festivals such us Granada, Alicante, Synthèse, CalArts, Boston Visual Music marathon, ‘Música Visual’ Lanzarote, etc. He was director of ASTARTÉ (Festival Internacional de Música in Cádiz) in Spain. He is currently professor of Audiovisual and Electroacoustic Composition at the Conservatory of Music in Granada. He has received an artist residency at the Bellagio Center granted by the Rockefeller Foundation. He founded with Rebecca Choate EKLEKTIKA, a multimedia group that has performed and toured in Spain, Mexico and the U.S.A. He has been guest professor at the University of Missouri Columbia and ‘Erasmus’ professor at the Academy of Music and Theater in Tallin, Estonia.
